Iconic Detroit Iron. The only thing wrong with these were the weak sauce 12-bolt rear ends.

That may be the first time I've ever heard a 12 bolt called weak.

Compared to the Danas? Or a Ford 9-inch rear? They 12-bolt is awesome compared to the ten-bolt rear. Had Chevys, like them tons. I torched one rear (being reeeeal stupid) but given the choice I would go Mopar if only for ease in changing the ring and pinion set. Oh and since I am swapping stuff around in my fantasy car, I want the solenoid on the firewall, like Mustangs had, and the distributor up front too to make setting the points easier. changing the solenoid on my 71 Chevelle was no fun.

The Dana 60 is great if you like adding a lot of unsprung weight and eating horsepower for no reason. The 12 bolt is just as strong as a 9 inch except for the c-clips on the axles, easy fix.
As far as the 10 bolt goes, a 70+ 10 bolt with the 8.5" gear is perfectly fine for all but the wildest of builds.

I agree with the Ford solenoid 100%. The piggyback Chevy style and headers are never a good combo.
